VFX / Particle Sprite Sheets
Render a game visual effect — explosions, smoke, magic, sparks — animate it through its full cycle, then bake every frame into one transparent sprite sheet plus a PNG sequence, ready for your particle/VFX system. Powered by AnnoMotion AI.
- Before you start
- A description of an effect — "an orange fireball explosion with black smoke".
- What you end up with
- A transparent sprite sheet PNG plus the frames as a zip.
Step by step
-
Describe the effect
Say what it looks like and how it behaves over its life — "erupts, billows outward, then dissipates".
-
Style and length
Pick the look and how long the cycle runs.
-
Choose the backdrop — this is the important one
The effect is filmed against a wall that gets cut out afterwards. Use magenta for pale, smoky, translucent effects; use black for bright, self-lit ones like fire and magic. Choosing wrong here is the single biggest cause of a bad sheet.
-
Size and generate
Set the frame size your particle system expects, then run it.
Worth knowing
- Smoke and steam against black tend to vanish. Smoke against magenta keys cleanly.
- Check the preview tiles against both a light and a dark wall — an effect that looks fine on one can show a halo on the other.
- If you only need a simple effect, the Particle Lab builds one in your browser for free.
